To land in Muted Summer or Muted Autumn in my colour analysis services, your natural hair around age 20 would need to show autumn traits—medium to deep, rich typically. It might not look obviously warm, but it’s deeper than the hair colours you see on your screen. Why does natural hair matter? Because it’s a great cheat sheet to get at your underlying colouring that ultimately drives your external colouring—your eyes, skin, and hair. Natural hair around age 20 is a key clue. And the hair colours on-screen don’t show obvious autumn traits. If you’re using terms like Soft Autumn or Soft Summer, that implies you’re potentially using a different colour analysis system. Cover your natural hair with a white fabric and focus on your skin (I’m saying cover your natural hair colour here if you are finding you are placing too much focus on matching colours to your hair colour. Its easier to do colour analysis checks of skin and jawline if you cover your hair) —it’s essential in colour analysis to focus on skin and jawline checks! Hair colour alone doesn’t determine your season. Springs, Autumns, and Summers can all naturally have very dark or even black hair. If your hair was clearly blonde or red at age 20, you’ll have fewer palettes to check—but regardless of your natural hair colour, you must do the colour analysis checks focusing on your skin for an accurate result. When I first started on TikTok so many disagreed on the comments on this topic 🤪 If it ever looked that way in the past, it was just a camera issue (I’m not an expert videographer here). I have a fully cool undertone and am a True Summer, as many of you know by now. Also, a little reminder: when someone compliments the colour you’re wearing, it doesn’t always mean it’s the best for you. Sometimes they just like the colour for themselves, or it’s so bold it’s all they notice—which can mean it’s overpowering or disconnected from your natural colouring. This is where colour analysis goes deeper.
