Ok what do you think? I caught so much flack the first time we posted this 😂 People said I was lazy and told me I should’ve used pilot-controlled lighting. My understanding is towered airports that are currently operating don’t want you clicking the mic to control lighting and would rather do it themselves. Is that accurate or an I just high maintenance? 🙋🏻♂️ #aviation #airplane #viral
Flying a slow plane means you’re generally “that guy” when you fly into towered airports. Especially Class C or B airports. This was on our way into our home airport, a Class D, on a windy day. Fun fact: the flight we were finishing here was climbing to 9,500 and flying backward (54 knots of wind up there) #flying #atc #pilot
If you’re ever in the area, try going over the top of KATL instead of under the bravo. The views are amazing and the controllers are super accommodating! 🛫 #airplane #aviation #pilot
I had my first real in-flight “scare” as PIC in September. I took off with a friend from PDK and was flying north when I heard a pop, immediately smelled exhaust, my CO detector started going off, and I heard an unusual rhythmic clacking sound. I immediately cleared right, started a turn back to the airport, and called tower. That’s where this video begins. As it turns out, my muffler had failed (photos at the end). It’s possible that prolonged flight could have caused damage to cylinders with the reduced back pressure, but we were likely never at real risk of losing the engine. I of course didn’t know that at the time. The tower controllers at PDK were excellent as always, and all ended well. #aviation #atc #pilot
