CBS News correspondent @lilia_luciano traveled to El Salvador to see the conditions inside the maximum security prison. A death row inmate in South Carolina, who was convicted of a double murder, is scheduled to be executed Friday night by firing squad – a method that has not been used in the United States in almost 15 years, and never in the state of South Carolina. As CBS News' Meg Oliver reports, the state maintains this is not cruel and unusual punishment because they allow the death row inmate to choose between lethal injection, firing squad and the electric chair. 67-year-old Brad Sigmon chose a firing squad. #southcarolina #crime

How do you rhyme with the word “orange?” It's not a problem for Eminem, who has three Grammy nominations this year. In 2010, the rapper told Anderson Cooper, “People say that the word orange doesn’t rhyme with anything and that kind of pisses me off because I can think of a lot of things that rhyme with orange.” #news #Grammys #Eminem #rap #rhyme #music

A South Carolina man was executed by firing squad Friday — the first execution of its kind in the U.S. since 2010 and just the fourth firing squad execution since the death penalty resumed in this country 49 years ago. Brad Sigmon, 67, walked into the death chamber at 6:05 p.m. Friday, where he was strapped into a chair and had a target placed over his heart, South Carolina authorities said Friday evening. Sigmon had a hood placed over his head, and three Corrections Department volunteers armed with rifles fired bullets designed to shatter on impact. The Supreme Court on Friday denied Sigmon's last-ditch effort to delay execution. Sigmon, who admitted to killing his ex-girlfriend's parents with a baseball bat and kidnapped her after she refused to come back to him, said he chose to die by bullets because he considered the other choices offered by the state to be worse. #news #SouthCarolina #crime

A deep-sea anglerfish, a type known as the Black seadevil recently made a rare appearance in light-filled blue waters off the coast of Tenerife in the Canary Islands. Marine animal photographer David Jara Boguñá and Spanish NGO Condrik Tenerife said in their joint post that the “legendary fish” is a humpback anglerfish, which “to date, records have mostly consisted of larvae, dead adults, or specimens spotted by submarines during deep-sea scientific expeditions.” It’s unknown why the fish was in such shallow waters, researchers said, as black seadevils typically live in the deep sea, where light no longer penetrates the water. Female anglerfish are known for the “fishing pole” like objects on their heads, the tip of which lights up the darkness of the deep sea to attract prey. #deepsea #deepseacreatures #anglerfish #fish #canaryislands #spain #ocean #deepocean #sea #seacreatures #seaanimals #marinelife
