Who wants to live in a silo home or add one as a guest suite!?!? If you’re thinking about it, then you will want to spend a few days over @geneacres in Chickamauga, Georgia. It is one of the prettiest Air B&Bs we’ve ever stayed in!! Last year, Oliver and I toured visiting several Barndominiums in Georgia. We have been following Stephanie and Gene for a long time and decided to check it out and grab a little R&R during our tour. Charming! Picturesque! Relaxing! Sooooo, pretty and it gave me lots of inspiration for future silo designs. It’s the perfect size. 850 ft.² of living, king bed loft, one and a half baths, queen Murphy bed, fabulous kitchen, washer and dryer and a fireplace. The soaring ceilings, make the silo feel so much larger!! There’s also a fabulous fire pit, comfy porch swing and a mini silo with a hot tub for a perfect sunset view. What’s not to love!? We will definitely be going back for another stay. So relaxing and another beautiful build by Vance Jones. And….now…I’m thinking I want to add a silo to our Barndo compound. Oh…Oliver….I’ve got a new project for us🤣! In the meantime, if you’re considering adding a silo, consider spending a weekend in this gorgeous Georgia Air B&B silo. I learned something! Kevin, the CEO of SprayFoam Genie, shared that…. if you installed spray foam insulation in your new home construction project in 2024, you can apply for up to a $5000 federal tax credit! And up to $1200 on an existing home project!!! Did you know that? I didn’t! I’m calling my CPA this morning! Wait!!! Wait!! I can’t!!! We’re snowed in down here in Houston! Nobody’s in the office. I’ll call him Thursday!!!!🤣 Sprayfoam is definitely the way to go when you’re building your Barndo, as long as it’s installed the right way. It’s almost like a science experiment happening in your home because of the mixing of chemicals done onsite. Make sure you do your due diligence when selecting the right company. We went with @sprayfoamgeniehouston . @sprayfoamgenie is a national franchise with more than 75 locations all across the US. They’re bonded, licensed and insured and have been around since 2007. They did a great job on our project. Give them a call. #ad We went with a 26 gauge metal panel from @burrowspostframesupply on the roof and side walls. The color is called Textured Black and it’s gorgeous…not to shiny or dull… just the right amount of sheen. And it will really hold up to our weather and sunlight in Southeast Texas. And remember, when you’re ordering your metal panels for your own build project, pay attention to the gauge you’re being quoted. In general, we recommend at least a 26 gauge on the roof and 29 gauge on the side walls. The higher the gauge, the softer the metal. If you are in an area of the country that’s prone to heavy hail storms, a thicker roof panel is better. Most homeowner’s insurance will NOT cover cosmetic damage. This means that if you have a hail storm and it dents your roof panels, you could be on your own to fix. Day 3 of our Fabulous February Barndo Tour It’s a dogtrot design located in Fredericksburg, Texas. What’s a Dogtrot you ask? Some people call it a breezeway home. It’s where the center of the Barndo is a covered porch and there’s typically living space on each side of the breezeway. This was a very popular design back in the 1800s through the mid 1900s. Then came the advent of air conditioning and home designs changed. Fast forward to 2015 and we’ve started to see a resurgence in this type of design, particularly in the country. There are 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, mud/laundry/pantry combo and a beautiful vaulted great room on the left-hand side. On the right side of the Dogtrot, the space is prepped to finish out with two in-law suites. Don’t need thein-laws suites… you’re in Fredericksburg… wine country!!! Day 2 of our Fabulous February Barndo Tours During the month of February, we’re bringing you 28 Barndos that we’ve designed, that are on the ground. This one, is the very popular Murphy Design. It’s a reverse two story layout…meaning that the primary living area is located upstairs. Downstairs, we have the entry, game room, bunk, room, office, full bath and oversize garage shop. Upstairs, there’s a vaulted great room, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, plus laundry. This allows homeowners to have sweeping views from the second story of their home overlooking their property. In addition to that, we have 2 spacious elevated covered porches… one on each end of the Barndo. Talk about bringing the outside in!!! Pass through kitchen window bar, soaring ceilings, outdoor fireplace, huge slider door and room for a future elevator, makes this luxury Barndominium design spectacular! All of this in just under 3200 ft.² of living and over 1500 ft.² in covered porches. And our client is thinking about screening in the porches! Nice!!!! Day 15 of our Fabulous February Barndo Tour We’re sharing 28 Barndos, we’ve designed, that are on the ground—-during the month of February! If you’ve missed any of the first 14 days, you’re going to want to go back and take a look. Some amazing Barndominium builds!!! This one is in Southeast Texas and Jared @tujay_homes and his crew build this gorgeous Dogtrot Barndo. What’s a “Dogtrot” you ask? Well, first off… it happens to be one of my favorite Barndo design styles. It’s where there’s a breezeway between two areas. This style of home dates back to the 1800s before air conditioning existed. The thought process was that by creating a breezeway between two interior spaces, you could cool off the rooms during the summer. Often times, you would find the living/sleeping area on one side and either the kitchen or your work area on the other side of the breezeway. This allowed the main area of the house to stay cooler in the summer by not cooking in there where you plan to sleep. It was a very popular style, particularly out in the countryside and it worked!! When we design Dogtrot Barndos, we break it up into three parts… A, B, and C. The details of this beautiful Barndo: A Side (left of Breezeway): 1 Bedroom 1 1/2 Baths Office Walk-in Pantry About 2400 ft.² of Living B is for Breezeway—The middle of the Design Over 1000 ft.² of Covered Porch C Side (right of Breezeway) 3 Bedrooms 3 Baths All… With their own entrances! I LOVE it!!! Gorgeous!!! And there’s more. The separate detached garage has a spacious Inlaw suite with 1 bedroom, 1 bath plus den and there’s a huge storage area upstairs accessible by staircase.
