Surgery went really well! They will be working on “debulking” her skin graft in sections, so today was the first of at least two more procedures. She had a really great night and we’ve able to stay ahead of the pain. Thank you everyone for all the prayers and positive vibes! #sepsis #necrotizingfasciitis #nfsurvivor #sepsissurvivor
Thank you again and again to all the people who helped the girls get their Nintendo Switch! We’ve only given them a few games so far, so I thought it was time to throw in a new one while Kennedy’s healing up. ♥️ #animalcrossing #pov #sepsis #sepsissurvivor #necrotizingfasciitis #nfsurvivor
I’m Still Me, An Ode to Kennedy - written by Meghan Mayer (me) One afternoon I had a conversation with my mom about how upset we all get when people stare, and how kids tend to stare and point. My mom said something along the lines of how kids might be scared and wonder who or what hurt Kennedy. I went to sleep that night and woke up with this poem in my head. I typed it all up on my notes app and went back to bed. I wasn’t sure if I’d ever share it with the social media world. But then today I realized that yesterday was exactly six months since Kennedy first got sick. Our lives have been completely twisted and turned upside down, and yet somehow, we’ve managed to find a way to persevere. Kennedy isn’t just surviving; she’s thriving. I wanted to share this poem with you all today in hopes that you can share it with others, with your children, with your students. Teach them that just because someone looks different, it doesn’t mean they aren’t just like everyone else on the inside. Teach them that we don’t have to be afraid when we see someone like Kennedy, and that it’s okay to ask questions. Kennedy has shown us throughout these past six months, that not only is she still herself, but that she’s even better than she was before. ♥️
Kennedy had the opportunity this weekend to try out sled hockey and she absolutely loved it! It was incredible to see all the different levels of ability. Inclusion is such a beautiful thing. ♥️ I think we will definitely be trying this again real soon! #sledhockey #adaptivehockey #inclusionmatters #inclusion #sepsissurvivor #hockey #belletiresledhockey
