However, I thought this would be a good reminder for everyone to take steps to be better prepared for emergencies. A week ago a brush fire started near by our home. We got an evacuation warning and learned that we were not as prepared for emergencies. Luckily the fire was contained within a couple hours and we didn’t have a mandatory evacuation order. To the cardiologist. PART 4. Sven’s heart is doing well. The measurements of his ventricular wall are actually smaller now. His heart is literally shrinking and healing, which is impossible. I remember when he first went into heart failure in January 2021. The emergency vet and cardiologist said he only had 8-10 months to live and that survival was basically impossible once heart failure was diagnosed. After a couple of weeks, we did get a second opinion from another cardiologist, and they didn’t think it was heart failure but he definitely has hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM). During his follow up with the first cardiologist (current) they were shocked to find that his heart got smaller. Over the years Sven has gone back for check up ultrasounds, eventually he was no longer in heart failure and was reconsidered to have MILD HCM. His cardiologist says we can reduce his check up appointments to every other year unless an updated ultrasound is needed for his dentist appointments. Sven is a very complex medical case. Happy to report that brushing teeth is getting easier. Why did we start brushing our cat’s teeth? We should have started from the beginning, but it was a daunting task. Nevertheless we have learned a difficult lesson with Sven’s dental health. He was favoring his left side. It seems like he may have a plaque allergy that is causing his gums to be inflamed and painful to eat. We are trying to brush daily to help ease some of that inflammation. Hopefully this will help down the line too with fewer extractions and overall better dental health. We are no longer using Plaque Off because his thyroid levels showed an increased, but Robbie and Louise still gets it. Sven will continue to get dental treats and an annual cleaning in between his daily brushing. #catmom #catmomlife #catlife #cathealth #catdental #talkingcat #catmeow
