The craziest place I've ever slept👇🏻 Would you hike, bike & climb 10 hours just to sleep in a hut (that was built in 1931) on top on the mountain?! This place has been on my bucketlist for years… so when a few of my friends said LET'S PICK DATES… it was a pinch me moment. Because it was actually happening. But the logistics are kinda wild… which is why you don't see that many people doing it. Since the original road is washed out, you have to bike 10 miles in with your 45+ pound packs up… which mine caught a tree going up and took me OUT. Then you hide the bikes in the forest (spooky) and start the 5000ft of elevation gain hike/climb up. Plus, add a bit of scary ice crossings with ice axes & then some free solo and ladder moments… and you're UP. & you do all of this without knowing if someone is already in the lookout…. So you bring a tent just in case. But… after 10 hours… we got up to an empty lookout! We stayed for two nights and had the most magical sunrise and sunset. & on the second night… a couple joined us in the cabin AND GOT ENGAGED. On the last night, it SNOWED & weather was supposed to get even worse, so then we hiked back down in some pretty wild conditions. Huge shoutout to the best mountain crew. This was SO FUN to do w/ yall. @Wylder || Vanlife 🚐🏔️ @maggiizine @Carson Olmstead So knowing all of that… would you do this? PS… I also keep thinking to myself… 2020 Quin (who had never been on a backpacking trip before) would have been like "YOU DID WHAT?!" Such a proud little moment for me. 5 Tips for Staying Warm while Fall/Winter Camping👇🏻 I am someone who gets VERY COLD, very easily, I’ve had a lot of anxiety around camping & weather. But over the course of the last few years, I’ve picked up some tips that have helped ease my anxiety about cold weather camping! Feel free to add your favorite tips too! 1. Shake out your sleeping bag! This helps evenly distribute the down. A lot of people make this mistake.. myself included until @the_adventureaddicts gave me this tip on a camping trip! It’s also important when you’re done w/ the trip, it keep it stored in a big bag to extend its life & effectiveness. I’ve been using my @mountainhardwear 15 degree bag for the last three years & love it. 2. USE A LINER! This might be my favorite tip because it’s SO effective w/ out breaking the bank! A lot of liners range between $20-80 and it’s 100000% worth it and will keep you warmer! I love my liner from @seatosummit 3. Bring reusable hand warmers! I love mine from @ignikoutdoors. I got them from @rei 4. Boil hot water & put it in your Nalgene & then in your sleeping bag around your core! Makes for an amazing heating pad! 5. Get a sleeping bag with a high R value! Now, if you’re backpacking, just double check weight! But you can also put a blanket or roam accordion pad under the sleeping pad to up your insulation from the cold ground. I love my Nemo Tensor pad from @nemoequipment. 6. Wear a beanie to bed! You lose a lot of warmth around your head, so cover up! Lmk if this was helpful! How-To: Solo Hike as a Woman I hate that so many people tell us not to solo hike as woman because its dangerous. So hiking is extremely empowering & here are some tips to help you get started: Packing List: • Water + Extra • Water Filter • Snacks (tons) • Satellite Phone (I use the Garmin In Reach) • Sunscreen • Small First Aid Kit • Kula Cloth for Bathroom • Fully Charged Phone • Layers for Weather • Hat & Sunnies • Safety Items (up to you) Remember: • Download the trail route before going • Text friends and family your route • Check the weather! Getting Started: • Pick a trail you have already done, close to home • If you're in a new area, pick a popular trail during the day with lots of foot traffic just in case • Have patience with yourself! • Do whatever you need to do to be comfortable & that might mean not saying hello to anyone LMK if you have any questions but YOU'VE GOT THIS!
