Just because they are our “natural” oils, doesn’t mean they should be left on our scalp. Removing oil, dirt and buildup is absolutely crucial for the health of our scalp, and as a result, the health of our hair. And that is exactly why shampoo was created in the first place! If oil isn’t being effectively removed after shampooing, your shampoo isn’t doing its job. Whether it contains sulfates or not… If your scalp feels “stripped” and dry after using a shampoo, that is a totally valid reason to look for a different option that better fits the needs of your scalp. But just seeing “sulfate” on the ingredients label isn’t enough to predict if a shampoo will do that to you or not. Other ingredients can be added (like gentler secondary cleansers + conditioning agents) to offset that potential “stripping” effect. Conditioner also helps with this on our lengths and ends. The best thing to do is not stress about ingredients that social media has taught us to fear (like sulfates), and instead just evaluate your shampoo based on how it makes your scalp and hair feel. If your scalp and hair feel clean… that’s perfect. That’s what shampoo is supposed to do! #shampoo #healthyhair #scalpcare

“I want my hair to grow faster… should I buy this?!” Here are my thoughts: Preventing excess shedding and/or restoring lost density are two examples of when it makes perfect sense to invest in a hair growth serum. When you look into the studies on ingredients like this, they are almost always tested on individuals experiencing various forms of alopecia. Not someone with an otherwise normal hair growth cycle that, let’s say, just chopped their hair really short or has hair damage from bleach and heat that wants to make their hair grow more quickly. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, it just means that any claim you see like that on social media should be taken with a grain of salt. If you’re interested in this line and do have hair loss, it could be one to ask your derm about (although Aminexil has not been FDA approved for hair growth so I’m sure they’ll recommend other things first). If you don’t have hair loss but you want your hair to just grow faster… I think you’re way better off investing in products that repair and protect your lengths than something like this!
