My assistant showed me this song a couple of weeks ago, but I finally sat down with it today- and whoa. 😳 This is fantastic pop writing. It’s not easy to find a track with hooky melodies, slick production, and vocals that go hard! 💥 The singers on this song?? STACKED. Wildly skillful, with juicy tone, stamina for days, and toolkits that don’t quit. 👏 We’ve got sky-high notes, big juicy intervals, register switcheroos, a dash of Korean sprinkled into the English lyrics, and soooo many tasty details. 🎤 This song is banana-bonkers wild, fam. 🍌🔥 Wanna see a breakdown of the vocals? It’s so interesting—as both a singer and vocal coach—to see how different languages use the same singery tools (tongue, lips, teeth) in completely different ways. This song is in Mandarin, and I had to learn this section pretty quickly. There are definitely details I’d love to spend more time with… but this is where I landed. Singing in an unfamiliar language feels like picking up an unfamiliar instrument. The mechanics might be similar, but the feel, the nuance, the response—it’s all new. It’s humbling, yes—but also deeply expansive. It stretches not just the voice, but the musician behind it. Song: Standing on the High Hill (站在高崗上) Artist(s): Originally by Kao Sheng-mei (高勝美), later covered by A-Mei (張惠妹) #VocalCoach #Singer #mandarin #Vocals
Both Cantonese and Mandarin have been the most challenging languages I’ve ever tried to wrap my ear and mouth around—so many new shapes and sounds for my native English tongue. Thank you so much for the grace as I share this piece with you. For those who don’t know, this is a Cantonese song called Shanghai Bund (in English). It’s difficult, but a ton of fun to sing! #Singer #Artist #VocalCoach #Cantonese
Here’s a #techtalk, for Sia‘s “Chandelier”. A song like this is a full contact sport… Lol! Athletic, almost. Here are some techniques for you to check out and try. *Please note: I use the term “snatch“ to define a note at the end of a phrase that pulls downwards… Or snatches downwards quickly! #VocalCoach #Singer #Chandelier #Sia #Voice #Vocals
Save this reel to add these tools to your vocal tool kit! The bridge in Lady Gaga’s Shallow is prob my fav bridge of all time! 😮💨 Let’s take a look at some vocal details! (It’s alllll kinds of drama and tons of fun to sing! 🫶🏼 🎤) #techtalk #singer #vocalcoach #shallow #ladygaga
I have to admit, Lemon is ridiculously catchy. 🍋 I’m convinced the Japanese language adds its own special magic. This isn’t even the chorus, and it’s already stuck in my head! Big thanks to the native speakers for your grace as my mouth and ears explore the new sounds of your language. 🙏🏻♥️ (There’s some intervals in this tune that are not super common in western pop music. 👂 Very interesting!) #Singer #Lemon #Japanese #vocalcoach #sing #voice #vocals #singing
✨ Singer Things ✨ I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… You gotta HEAR it before you can add it to your vocal tool kit! 🔨🪛🔧🥰 🎤♥️🎤 #VocalCoach #SomeoneYouLoved #lewiscapaldi #singerthings
🚨 Grit is all over pop and rock vocals—but here’s the deal: it should never hurt. If it feels tight, sharp, or like you’re coughing out the note—pause. You’re pushing past your power zone. Grit lives on top of a supported, steady tone. We’re not screaming—we’re shaping pressure with precision. Sing with intention, not tension. #River #BishopBriggs #Grit #Singer #vocalcoach

As a singer/songwriter, I love singing my original songs. Buuuuut, I equally enjoy singing cover songs. People love hearing artists reimagine popular songs. Sometimes I’ll say to an artist: “Pretend you wrote this song- what would YOU do with it?!” When creating your version of covers: Listen to the original artist; listen to other singers’ versions of it. Paint with all the colors and brushes that move and inspire YOU. 🎨🎤♥️ #singer #vocalcoach #cover #setfiretotherain #adele
After jamming out to Golden, I wanted to try a Korean song: Arirang Alone (홀로 아리랑). Korean was a wild ride of trying to understand soft vs hard “K” sounds, the difference between “K” and “G,” and how “B” sounds kinda have some “P” vibes… plus I learned there’s no “F” sound in the Korean language! This is a beautiful song, and after learning just a little slice of it, I have even more appreciation for So Hyang and her gorgeous tone, register changes and attention to detail. (This song is bananas, vocally! 🎤 🍌) As always, thank you for your grace as I explore. I learn so, so much from these deep dives. Singing in a new language keeps my ear on its toes. Every detail needs to be noticed, examined, and absorbed. Whew! 😅🙏🏻♥️🥰 #Singer #VocalCoach #korean #singing #sing #vocals #voice
