We are back 2 years later snowboarding at LAAX and Cashy showed this mini park that she’s isn’t afraid. Her progression over the years has been so fun to watch develop as she’s riding more and more confident every single day! You can see it in her style and edge control on her board. We LOVE coming to @LAAX!It’s always good vibes and the one thing we can rely on, even 2 years later, is that they keep a very consistent style for their parks. That meant we could come back after a long time away and Cashy could go right back into this park line like she never left. This place is the best and we hope to keep coming back here over the years ahead to be able to timeline the progression of riding on their world class parks! #snowboarding #girlpower #laax #switzerland

Snowboarding is all about trust—trusting your skills, your instincts, and pushing past your fears. Watching little 8 year old Cashy tackle these steep black diamond runs with so much confidence is beyond inspiring. That confidence on the slopes isn’t just a big part of the sport, it’s shaping her mindset for life. It’s teaching her how to face challenges head-on, stay calm under pressure, and keep pushing forward, no matter the obstacle. So proud of the strength and fearlessness she’s building, both on the mountain and in everything she does. Keep going, kiddo—you’ve got this! -Dad #snowboarding
Utilizing our @REVBALANCE board to show you the difference between a boardslide and a 5050 on a snowboard. Both tricks are introductory for a snowboarder beginning to hit terrain park features like a box or tube but each have their own unique directions you need to have your board. For a boardslide you want your board to be perpendicular to the feature making somewhat of a plus + sign with your board and the feature. On a 5050 your board is parallel with the feature and if it’s a tube or rail you want to basically split your board down the middle having 50% of your board on each side of the tube or rail. For both you want to keep the base of your board flat on the feature throughout your slide. Once you try to engage an edge while on a feature you have a high chance of looping out. That is demonstrated at the end of this video on accident by yours truly. We wanted to share this to help riders and non riders to understand the difference between these two tricks as we know we’ll be sharing more of them and calling the trick out. Hope this helps! -Nick PS If you click the link in our bio you can get 10% off a RevBalance setup! #snowboarding #balancedtraining #teaching
When you are trying to push your limits it’s normal to get frustrated. Especially when you can’t get it after trying many times or when you have gotten it but then can’t get it again. The first rule in our house is to have fun. Snowboarding is our happy place and it will always be fun first or it’s not worth it. With any progression there will be slams. It is so hard to watch her take them but it’s important to note that it is part of the sport. We always do a thorough inspection after hard falls and give her the option that if she is done riding, no matter what, it’s okay to walk away and try again another day. We have been seeing the snowboard fire getting bigger and bigger within little Cashy. Nick and I have always made sure that she knows that this is her journey and she can decide which way it goes. If she wants to hit the park we are in. If she wants to go in the trees, we are there too. If she wants to take the deep and steep fluff, we are guiding her all the way. While we were in Finland, she was loving their park. She has been testing her limits with going higher on the jumps and trying out new tricks on the boxes. We lapped this park for five days straight. We took a few other runs but this was where she wanted to be. Other features she was also kind of struggling with but then that slam happened. She said she was okay but I saw her get into her head and started to become super bummed on herself. I’ll tell her as long as I live that it’s okay to have feelings and to feel them all. Also, I t’s very important to know that no one is perfect and that sometimes we just have to step back, take a little breather and build that confidence back up. She is such a little warrior and we are beyond proud of her resilience to keep going. The smile on her face at the end of the day and her stoke for what she accomplished is why we do this. Failure is not failure, it’s a learning opportunity!
A different style of snowboarding for our 8 year old daughter Cashy. I’ve been trying to think of a good time to introduce street snowboarding to little Cashy and just like anything in life, the best time to start is yesterday. This opportunity came because our local resort had all lifts held due to 60+ mph winds but we wanted to ride so we took to the streets! See street snowboarding is a whole different level of riding. It’s a whole different vibe because unlike the terrain park, these features aren’t made for us snowboarders. Meaning they are far from perfect and many spots come with some kind of consequence. The world of snowboarding for any rider vastly opens up when they start to take their riding to the streets. Spots are everywhere in every town or city, you just have to have a vision. I found this spot on google maps after getting some intel from local riders of other spots near by. I knew this would be an excellent first spot to hit because the entry on the far side was a minimal hop on with a mellow 3ft drop on the other side to land. It was slightly curved which allowed her exit off to always be away from the concrete wall. The rad building in the background also made for a cool shot! As you hear in the video, we had a security guy come out. Run ins with authorities are one of those potential consequences that come with the street snowboarding territory. Luckily for us this dude was super chill. We weren’t allowed to show our interaction with him but he didn’t hassle us at all once he saw what we were doing. We likely just got super lucky or he didn’t really understand what we were doing. Either way. This was a super fun, fairly low consequence spot perfect for little Cashy to try her hand at street riding. The fact she had that fall and was completely fine is a testament to this little girls strength! -Nick #snowboarding #girlpower
Cashy competed in her first ever USASA Slopestyle event at Grand Targhee resort this past weekend! This particular event was so special for many reasons. Reason 1 - This was all little Cashy’s idea. She saw a video of one of her friends competing at a USASA event in Colorado and told Nick she wanted to try one. So after many talks and training runs on our local hill we got her registered and made the haul across the state to Grand Targhee for her first USASA Snowboarding competition. Reason 2 - Nick and I were raised riding at Grand Targhee. It was our stomping grounds as kids. It’s one of our favorite places to ride in general but I think that’s because it’s where we grew up riding. The Ghee holds so much space in our hearts so to be able to finally take Cash, watch her compete, then show her around was a special day. So not only her first comp but her first time riding the Ghee! A right of passage if you will. Reason 3 - Coming from a massive ski race family, being at the hill all the time was my norm. As we grew up and moved away from home my parents haven’t gone to the hill much so having them come up to watch Cashy, be there and feel that happiness at being on the hill again was magical. My parents were there for her first time ever (2 days before her first birthday) and haven’t seen her ride in person again till this moment, her first comp. Seeing my parents watch her and see how much love she has for this sport was something I will never forget. Lastly to our little Cashy. We are so beyond proud of you for having the courage to even sign up. For taking a chance on a new side of this sport you love and for giving it your all. You sent it and threw down! You are one brave little girl with the heart of a lion and I am so excited to see where this takes you. Follow your heart, know that we will always have your back and If Your Scared, Do It Scared! Sky is the limit Small Fry. We love you to infinity and beyond. -Whitney #snowboarding #grandtarghee #usasa
Ruka Resort has been on our travel bucket list for a while now! We seem to be constantly trying to cross off while adding more places to our shred and travel bucket lists. Once we knew we were going to Europe for a different trip, we made the decision to jump a quick flight up to Finland to go ride RUKA for their Polar Night Light Festival. We were hoping to cross 2 bucket list items off by seeing the Northern Lights as well but it was cloudy and snowy the whole time we were there. Maybe it was for the better and all that means is we have to go back! This little mountain village packs a big punch when it comes to shredding as well as fun. Here are 3 things that you can do on mountain that will have everyone in the family smiling! 1. Snow racing on Stiga Sleds 2. Sauna and dine at BASE 3. Explore the slopes and terrain parks There are plenty of things outside of the resort you can also go experience, like a sleigh ride pulled by reindeer, so you’re never short of something to do when you travel to Ruka Lapland Finland!
The main education that we all learned while up at Mike Wiegele Heli Skiing was how to rescue someone in the event of an avalanche. Cashy learned with her peers by her guides playing hide and seek with their transceivers. She had so much fun that she really wanted to show Whitney what she learned and practice with her recovery skills. It was really cool to see how much fun the kids had searching for buried beacons. In a real life scenario this would be much more hectic and there would be a far stricter safety guideline to follow. However this is avalanche recovery from an 8 year olds point of view. She has the basics of it and will only build on her education as she spends more time with the tools in an avalanche pack. Steps to rescue an avalanche victim 1. Yell AVALANCHE as soon as you spot the snow sliding. 2. Watch the victim to track their path and make a mental note of the last place you saw them as that will be a good point of reference for your search. 3. Make sure the avalanche has completely stopped before entering the slope. 4. Scan the surface for any signs of the victim or their gear. 5. Make sure you take a count of everyone in your party in the event there are more than one persons trapped. 6. Switch your avalanche beacon to search mode or receive mode to locate the victims transceiver signal. 7. Follow your beacon and as the number gets smaller you should be getting closer. 8. Once within a close distance, make a cross pattern and as your numbers go up, stop and go the opposite direction. Repeat in all 4 directions. 9. Probe for the victim. Once you have found your smallest number, probe in a circular pattern getting wider by about 12 inches every circle. 10. When you think you have found the victim, mark their location with your probe and begin shoveling downhill from the probe. 11. If you have multiple rescuers, have 1 person digging with others filtering the snow down slope. Dig for about a minute each to not tire out. 12. Try to uncover the victims head first then chest to allow breathing. Perform CPR if needed and don’t move the victim unless absolutely necessary. Please don’t venture out into the backcountry alone or without proper education and equipment. Always let someone know where you are going and the areas you plan to be exploring in the event they need to send a rescue party out to search for you and your crew. #snowboarding #skiing #mikewiegeleheli
We came to Ruka Resort specifically to experience the Polar Night Light Festival. As you can see it is pretty special! The way they light up the trees and runs is not typical to any night riding experience we’ve ever seen. This resort is smaller in terms of vertical but such a fun little resort to explore with lots of fun little surprises around the mountain. This is just the start of many adventures that we are experiencing in Finland and we can’t wait to share more of our fun on and off the mountain! For now, just get lost in the lights and joy of the rad Polar Nights Light Festival! #snowboarding #experiences #ruka #finland
Nicest hotel we’ve ever stayed at on a ski vacation! LAAX is easily first on the list of our favorite places to snowboard. We tell people all the time that this is a snowboarders paradise. The parks are insane, the vibe is full of stoke, everyone is super kind and the accommodations at Rocks Resort are epic! You stay right there in a little village at the base of the mountain and it has everything you need from a grocery store to numerous restaurants. Simple access to the slopes with a quick ride up the tram to the top with unbelievable terrain and views everywhere you look. Here is our room from our most recent stay. It was a two bedroom apartment with full kitchen and a quick walk from the gondola. The beds were comfortable, the shower/steam room was amazing and it was super relaxing even with all our gear packed in there! Rocks Resort is and always will be our go to lodging spot when we visit LAAX! #travel #RoomTour #laax #switzerland #europe
