Replying to @Desert 🌵 Flower Greenhouse Restoration pt 3: Final Touches ✨⁣ ⁣ The hardest part of any project is the last 10% and Anna and I finally willed ourselves to finish the greenhouse since the weather was getting warm again. Here’s what we did to push this DIY across the finish line:⁣ ⁣ The black granite gravel perimeter was essential because this is where the plants will live. We wanted something that would drain well and also look great against the pottery. We chose bigger chunks (1-2inches) because we don’t want smaller stones getting kicked around onto the tile 🪴⁣ ⁣ Power washing this entire place was 10000% necessary. It was dusty AF from all of the work we’ve done, and cleaning off these tiles was oh so satisfying. Fortunately the greenhouse drains and dries super quickly so we can easily clean in here whenever we want 🚿⁣ ⁣ There were a few things we called in some help for too. We had our electricians install fans for increased airflow and heat pumps for temperature control (will make a separate video for this) and we had the painters do the trim along the windows. Our contractors also built us stairs that were up to code, but we totally could have done this ourselves in retrospect 🤷‍♂️⁣ ⁣ I’ve already started filling the greenhouse with plants and it is an absolute dream come true. Raised Bed Garden Build pt. 1 🥬 This is the project I’ve been waiting all winter for, and it was finally warm enough to get outside and lay the foundation for our raised bed garden. Here are some key points and tips: Why a raised bed garden? Raised beds provide some protection against smaller pests but the main reason I use them is to have complete control over my soil. In the coming weeks I will fill them with @Espoma Organic potting soil, raised bed mix and compost and then will plant my summer crop in late May 🍅 Why the cardboard and pea gravel? The cardboard is great for weed suppression, especially when you add another 2-3 inch of mulch or pea gravel. I like the pea gravel over mulch here because I don’t want to have to replace it every few years, and I do like the sound under foot. We used just under 20 yards of material, but renting the @Bobcat Company made the work fly by. I’ll also add additional flagstone pavers in between for optimal walking accessibility 👣 What are the beds made of? These raised beds from @Gardener’s Supply Company are my all time favorite and I have been using them for over five years now. They’re made of cedar, which is naturally resilient and durable, and are ideal for a four season climate. The beds are super easy to install and they come in all shapes and sizes depending on your garden’s needs 🛏 How will you protect it from animals? I’ve given up on the idea of creating a fully insulated garden outdoors but I’m going to install an 8ft deer fence along the perimeter of our backyard.
