What actually makes a workout effective? None of things. The way you know you had a “good” effective training session is by seeing consistent progressive overload overtime. If you’re not adding weight or reps overtime then that sick pump means nothing. Soreness- if you’re consistently getting REALLY sore after your lifts to the point that you’re still sore by the time you hit that muscle again that’s not ideal. Getting sore isn’t necessary for a session to have been effective. Feeling beat up post workout- not important or necessary. I used to think if you still had energy leaving the gym you did something wrong. Now I know “stimulate dont annihilate”. Find a training stimulus you see consistent progress on and cruise on that. Being at the gym 2hrs or longer- assuming you’re not training your yapping for the majority of the session there’s no reason you couldn’t get an effective lift in within 45-90 minutes even while resting 2-3min between sets. The PUMP- not likely to be a driver for growth. You can get a sick pump doing a ton of reps with minimal rest and essentially have done nothing stimulating for your growth. Sweating a lot- again not a driver for growth and not important even if your goal is just burning more calories. It just means you were hot and will need to hydrate better post workout. Things I used to believe that I no longer do! CUTTING & BULKING PROGRAMS -There is no magic program or major changes that need to be made when switching dieting phases. At most you may want to adjust training volumes as you continue with a deficit lowering some things down to maintenance volume. GAIN 1LB A WEEK TO BULK -Perhaps this is something you can do as a complete beginner for a short period of time but you can run a much lower surplus while still maximizing growth and better minimize fat gained. A 5-10% surplus is sufficient. YOU HAVE TO DO HIGH VOLUME -I used to think you wouldn’t see any growth doing less than 20+ sets a week for a muscle but that isn’t necessary in most cases. You can maintain or even see progress depending on the individual on 1-3 working sets a week. I would recommend starting low to moderate with your weekly sets and then you can always work up from there as needed. CHANGING YOUR PROGRAM -You don’t have to change your program just because an arbitrary number of weeks has passed. So long as you enjoy the program and it still fits your goal then you can keep running it. Even if you get tired of a program you can always swap out exercises for similar movements to keep things fresh. POWER & STRENGTH FULL BODY WORKKK😤✨ DETAILS ⬇️ outfit is @Alphalete dc: DAILEY 1. Squats (strength focused) - any type of squat you prefer, i prefer backsquats. Set one: 5 reps of warm up weight Set two: 5 reps increasing the weight slightly Set three: 5 reps of a challenging weight (pick a weight that is around 3-5 reps from failure) Set four: 3-5 reps (this is your top set) GIVEEEE ERRR on this one. Pick a weight that is about 2 reps from failure. Set five: back off set. Drop the weight back down to a comfortable yet challenging weight. Go until failure. If youre getting over the 8-10 rep range on this, you picked too light of a weight. 2. Rock back seated stomp to vertical jump. 3 sets of 8-10. Be EXPLOSIVE + 3. Pull ups or chin ups - any variation you are comfortable with. 3 sets of AMRAP 4. Chest press - STRENGTH - 3 sets of 6-8. Lower reps because you should be pushin your weight here 5. It unfortunately took me years of training in the weight room and not seeing the benefits within my kickboxing performance and overall athleticism to realize I wasn’t doing something right. DON’T make my mistake. The problem was I wasn’t training with intention, I wasn’t training with structure, I wasn’t training for PERFORMANCE. Regardless of your sport or craft, how you utilize your time in and out of the gym is essential. It’s an opportunity to target weak spots, correct imbalances, and fine-tune movement patterns so that when you return to your sport, you’re one step ahead. For example, with my kickboxing and Muay Thai performance, what’s important for me to focus on is my full-body endurance, explosive power through my upper body and hips, and staying light on my toes. So, what did I start adding? Explosive movements with weights, med balls, and resistance bands, incorporating plyometrics, and prioritizing compound exercises that mimic striking patterns. Once I identified my weaknesses and the areas of my athleticism I needed to improve, I could structure my training to align with my goals and drive real improvement.
