It must become a home for the people," said Governor Baricuatro, who assumed office this afternoon. Governor Baricuatro took the helm of the Cebu Provincial Government after pulling off an upset victory over seasoned politician Gov. Gwen Garcia in the last May elections. "With sincerest gratitude and humility, I accept this mandate entrusted to me by over 1.1 million Cebuanos to serve as the governor of the Province of Cebu," Governor Baricuatro said. Governor Baricuatro said she is proud to accept the responsibility of the governor not because of the title but because of the resounding trust given to her as the people's governor by the Cebuanos who are ready for change, rooted in progress and duty. During the turnover ceremony this morning, Gov. Baricuatro, accompanied by family members, friends, and supporters, received a warm welcome from outgoing Vice Governor Junjun Davide, along with Capitol department heads. "I vow to be a governor who listens, who works side by side with all of you, who leads with integrity, transparency, and heart. We will build a Cebu that leaves no one behind," she said. Also present during the turnover rites were people from different walks of life who greeted her at the front of the Capitol. "Today, we officially transition to a new kind of governance, one that is people-first, transparent, and driven by a true desire to serve. And this is not just a handover of position. He obtained his Degree in Philosophy at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary in Tagbilaran, and finished his Theological Studies at St. John Mary Vianney Theological Seminary in Cagayan de Oro City.
