I’m calling out casual homophobia on talkback radio - specifically the @Kyle & Jackie O show - no wonder why the ratings are low for their show in Melbourne .. I’ve NEVER heard such negative feedback in any media outlet about my rainbow house which I call my home & i proudly own as a gay man in society and have had to deal with violent homophobia, in my backyard and in a magistrates court for. Kyle , to insinuate that my home / bus would have STICKY FLOORS is incredibly assumptuous, inappropriate and actually really bigoted , saying things like “I bet that’s an old gay that lives in that house” is ageist. Saying that that my house is “disgusting” and the “ugliest looking joint you’ve ever seen” to paint a picture for listeners and then to target me and single me out as an individual that expresses so freely in color, and bringing my sexual orientation into it…. Also to the caller , saying Im a nice guy , but “he does bat for the other team” - thats not a compliment, or is it appropriate language. Children actually listen to this radio station on the way to school being a 6am til 10am time slot. Why is the Australian Radio Network allowing this kind of misogyny on the radio? Thered been reports the Kyle and Jackie O show have lost advertisers as campaigners accuse show of normalising ‘violent misogyny’ - I completely agree. Targeting minorities is not entertaining unless you’re a bully. This kind of normalising homophobia, spreads homopbobia. It sends the message that it’s OK to speak like this, in conversation ,about others, or to others. The large budget used for Kyle Sandilands on air could be better used on employing many people that better reflect, celebrate and voice our diverse Australian community, rather then listening to this guy on a mic 🎤 casually being judgemental and misogynous as “entertainment” on our drive to work. The last thing Australia needs is to be regressing in progression , and I don’t think men with a platform like Kyle - on national radio are helping, or demonstrating what it is to be an ally. #vilekyle #kylesandilands #homophobia #lgbt #lgbtqia #lgbtqiaplus #Pride #voice #omg #wow #gay
