How doctors get paid in Canada and an overview of how much we make #supporthealthcareworkers #doctorsoftiktok #canadian #canadianhealthcare #healthmatters
✨ Expecting a baby in Canada? 🇨🇦 Let’s talk about the hidden costs that no one really prepares you for — especially if you're coming from abroad or don't yet have public health coverage 😅👶 Even though Canada is known for "free" healthcare, it’s only free if you’re already covered by the public system — and even then, only certain things are fully paid for. If you're uninsured, a newcomer, or just waiting for your provincial coverage to kick in... brace yourself. It’s not just diapers and strollers — we’re talking serious money 💸👀 Things like private blood labs, out-of-hospital midwife services, or wanting a doula at your side? That’s 💯% out of pocket. Some newcomers even pay in cash for basic prenatal visits before coverage kicks in — or have to get loans for delivery bills 😓 And let’s not even get into hospital parking... yes, even parking drains your wallet over 9 months 🚗💰 Pro tip? If you're planning to move to Canada while pregnant, get informed EARLY — apply for provincial coverage right away, get on a midwife’s waitlist (they fill up super fast!), and budget for the extras — including things like prenatal vitamins, compression socks, maternity clothes, lactation consultants, and postpartum recovery gear 🍼🌿 And if you're already in Canada and covered? Consider yourself blessed — this country’s healthcare system has your back in some powerful ways 🙌 But knowledge is still power — especially when it comes to budgeting 🧠💡 🎥 Save this for later, tag someone who’s expecting, or drop your own experience in the comments! Did you pay out of pocket for anything? Let’s help each other plan better ❤️🔥 Hashtags: #PregnancyInCanada #CanadianHealthcare #BabyBudget #MomLifeCanada #ExpectingInCanada #CostOfLivingCanada #PregnancyCosts #MaternityCareCanada #NewcomerCanada #PrenatalCare #PregnancyPlanning #LifeInCanada #GivingBirthCanada #CSectionCosts #VaginalDelivery #PregnancyTips #CanadaMom #MomTok #FinanceTips #PregnancyAdvice #NewParentLife #MaternityJourney #HealthCoverage #CanadianMoms #MidwifeCanada #HospitalParking #PunjabiFinance
Replying to @Susan Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass, OB-GYN and President-elect of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada, is clear about the reality Black women face in healthcare. From not being heard during labour, to having decisions made without their input, to navigating a system they often don’t trust—the barriers are real, and they’re costing lives. This is why Black Maternal Health Week matters. Because listening, trusting, and valuing Black women in healthcare shouldn’t be optional—it should be standard. #BlackMaternalHealth #BMHW2025 #BlackHealthMatters #HealthEquity #MaternalHealth #BlackMomsMatter #ReproductiveJustice #CanadianHealthcare #OBGYN #MedicalLeadership #FMWCanada
Canadian healthcare is “free”… but only if you can afford to wait. I couldn’t. In 3 days, I’m heading to the Mayo Clinic — because “waiting” was starting to look a lot like dying. Today was the inaugural launch of the City of Toronto’s first-ever Black Maternal Health Week. We had the chance to attend the event at North York General Hospital and spoke to Dr. Everton Gooden, President and CEO of North York General, and Dr. Modupe Tunde-Byass, a prominent OB-GYN and President-elect of the Federation of Medical Women of Canada. This is the first Black Maternal Health Week of its kind in Canada—a historic step toward amplifying the voices and experiences of Black mothers and families, and pushing for systemic change in healthcare. Throughout the week, we’ll be sharing more videos and interviews from the event—because awareness is just the beginning. #BlackMaternalHealth #BMHW2025 #BlackHealthMatters #HealthEquity #MaternalHealth #BlackMomsMatter #ReproductiveJustice #CanadianHealthcare #OBGYN #MedicalLeadership #NorthYorkGeneral #FMWCanada
