A must visit in Kananaskis 🇨🇦 📍Blackshale Suspension Bridge A hidden gem tucked away in Kananaskis Country, the Blackshale Suspension Bridge is a must-do hike with epic views and family-friendly trails. You can choose between the short and easy 1km loop or the longer 6.1km route—both offering beautiful scenery and a chance to walk across this stunning suspension bridge surrounded by towering trees and mountain peaks. This adventure is located in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, one of the most scenic areas in Kananaskis. For the 6.1km hike, park at the Black Prince parking lot. Make sure to walk across the road to the correct trailhead—there’s a marked hiking sign that will guide you to the Blackshale Suspension Bridge route (not to be confused with the Black Prince Trail, which starts from the same lot). If you’re opting for the 1km version, you’ll need to park on the shoulder of the road. There’s plenty of space, but please be cautious. The short loop can be completed in 20 minutes, but give yourself extra time to take photos, soak in the views, and enjoy the peaceful forest. There’s no cell service in the area, so make sure to download or screenshot your maps before heading out. And remember—this is bear country!
